The lake and pond are havens for water fowl and long legged waders. In addition to Canada Geese there are often Great Blue Herons, Egrets, Ruddy Duck, Wood Duck, Harriers (in winter), Osprey and Kingfishers. Mergansers can be seen in the spring and Swans will stop by on their travels through the area.
Over the fields look for Red Tailed Hawks, Coopers Hawks, Sharp Shinned Hawks, Bald Eagles (during migration) and other raptors. A Northern Shrike has been seen on a rare occasion. In the fields and woods look for deer, coyote, quail, both red and gray fox as well as rabbits, voles, mice and muskrat (near the pond). Wild turkeys are sometimes seen in the woods.
The woods near the stream are of mature Hickory, Red Maple and White Ash. There is a beautiful stand of Beech trees on the southern slope of the brook between the lake and the pond. In the abandoned farm fields south of the pond and east of the lake, you will find a tangle of Cedar, Red Maple, Black Cherry, Multiflora Rose, autumn Olive and Wild Grape. Look for islands of trees in the mowed field west of the Blue bird meadow. The browse line of the deer is startlingly clear on the cedars in these islands.
