Summary

Distance: Lake Shore Trail is 2.2 miles round trip; Main Trail to Rosedale Lake is 1.7 miles
Time:

Curlis Lake - Allow one hour (add another 30-45 minutes if walking with children).

Main Trail to Rosedale Lake - Allow 50 minutes from the Main Street entrance to reach the lake( allow more time if walking with children).

Markings:

About 500 feet along the trail, look for color map display: Howes Lane Trail - green (Marking by wooden stakes with colored tape;
Lake Shore Trail - blue (and with painted arrows on trees);
Redwood Trail - red;
Woodland Trail - orange.

Trail Usage: Walking/Hiking, Horseback riding, Dogs permitted on leash
Elevation: Less than 20 feet.
Difficulty:

Easy walking throughout. Watch for exposed tree roots on Lake Shore Trail.

Parking:

1. From Pennington: Space for five cars on the road shoulder at the South Main Street Entrance, Pennington Borough.

2. From Mercer County Equestrian Center: Space for 30 cars at MCEC off Federal City Road.

Tips:

The Equestrian Center is a wonderful place to bring the family to see horses. There are also great views of open fields and woodlands.

Restrooms are available inside Main Building of Mercer County Equestrian Center during daylight hours.

Amenities: There is bench at the intersection of the Lane Loop and Howes Lake Trails.
Overview:

Curlis Lake is a small parcel connected to larger preserved parkland known as Mercer County Northwest Park. A total of 1,600 acres is preserved and offers a variety of trails for walking, mountain biking, horseback riding and environmental interpretation. Trail linkages are possible from Curlis Lake behind the equestrian center, crossing Federal City Road into the Pole Farm, which is 812 acres of fields, woodlands and trails. A trail guide and map are also on the NJ Trails website.

In June 2009, Lawrence Township Greenway Committee and the Open Space and Stewardship Advisory Committee published a trail guide ocntianing 15 walks and maps for the public to enjoy. Please visit http://www.lawrencegreenway.org for updates and information.

Directions:

1.The hiking entrance is on South Main St. in Pennington Borough. As you drive south on Main Street look on your left for a large Board of Education building . Pass median of green lawn and trees on left and just beyond Baldwin Street you will see the trail entrance with chain across pathway and the Green Acres sign. Pull out on the East side of the street.

2. Mercer County Equestrian Center(MCEC): From Pennington follow Delaware Ave. East towards Princeton. Take Federal City Road (right fork) for .8 miles to MCEC on the right. Turn right up driveway and park in lot. The Lake Shore Trail begins to the far right side from the parking lot. Walk to the right of the fences.
